LightningWX 1.5.15 and 1.5.16: Custom Products, 250-Frame Loops and Storm Reports
LightningWX has two new releases, versions 1.5.15 and 1.5.16, announced on October 7, 2026 at lightningwx.com. Existing users will be offered the update automatically.
What is new
- Custom Products: write a simple rule such as
ZDR > 2 and height > freezing_leveland LightningWX draws it on the map. Start from 10 ready-made products, save your own, and import GR2Analyst and RadarOmega color tables. Included with a LightningWX license. - 250-frame loops: loops can now run up to 250 frames, up from 64. Older frames are kept on disk, with a Frame Cache slider to set the size.
- Storm reports on the map: a new Spotter Reports layer shows National Weather Service storm reports as they come in, each with its own icon and age. Included with a LightningWX license.
- Fixes (1.5.16 and 1.5.15): Volume Explorer no longer opens empty after a long loop, MP4 videos from the 3D Storm Scene work again, and shelf clouds and the pop-up storm forecast were improved.
